309 Bug: CTFL+SHIFT+F Search

Hello,

I find that the “SHIFT+F” search is de-functioning; and once the search bar is closed by the cross button, it cannot be recovered with “SHIFT+F”.

Hi,

for me the find function (ctrl + f) works great, but the seach function (Crtl + Shift + F), I think thats what bob_sun means, doesn't work at all. Clicking on this function in the menu doesn't work either.

Kind regards

Hi Bob,

Interesting that you should say that. I've just found the same thing, but my colleague cannot reproduce this.

While this didn't work for me, I'd like to see if going to View --> Toolbars --> Reset and View --> Toolbars --> Commands --> Reset All helps you. Before you do so, I would recommend going to Edit --> Export Settings.... to avoid losing any customization.

Cheers, keep me posted!

Hi guys - sorry Peter, I wasn't aware that you'd posted until just now. It's 3:00am here in Canada, so the Devs. won't be in for another 6hrs or so (I'm hoping that I won't still be here, at that point!), so I will pass it along to my colleagues for further investigation.

Cheers,

Will,

I think this deserves higher priority to be solved.

Here too. It's totally broken. Nothing appears.

Hello!
I think it would be wise to rename the topic to something like "advanced search (ctrl+shift+F) not working". The title this way is incorrect and uninformative, shift+F never was a shortcut.

Hi guys,

Priority isn't and wasn't the issue, the issue was that I was awake and working at 3am. Our normal working hours 9:00am to 5:30, so it's not a case of us not prioritizing, it's a limitation of the hours that we're open.

Did you really release a new version without update the version number? How can somebody control if he has the good or bad version downloaded? If I had deploy the program already I get the next problem, if the version number not changed. Please use next time a new version/build number, even when it was a stupid bug. ;)

Greetings,
Tim Gerundt

I think you're right, it would be easier to see when they would have updated the version number.

But nevertheless you can see that you're using the new version when you look at the build date below the version number. When it says the 30. it should be the newest build with the fix.

Kind regards

Changing the build number can cause problems in some MSI installations for 'minor' build numbers so we avoid updating the build number in such instances. The build date is always relevant and we obviously tell you if we are updating a build on a specific date in this manner.

Hi Tim.
Please use next time a new version/build number, even when it was a stupid bug. ;)
Sure, you are right, Tim. In the future where possible - we will fix problems like this in standard way, with changing of version number - subject to John's comments above.

Sorry again for inconveniences and thanks for your understanding..

Best
Regards.

Hi,

one final thought on this: The download area refers to a release of July 30th while the release notes only show the July 28th release. In order to have a consistent process, may I suggest that you add a line "version 5.5.309 release - 30-07-2014" to the release notes that simply mentions this bug fix. I know, it's not pretty, but it makes it so much more transparent to users who were not involved in this discussion.

Cheers
Ralf

Hi Ralf,

Thanks for the suggestion, we will certainly have it in mind as well as other options.
However if the "minor builds" approach is chosen that might not be necessary :)

Cheers,
Stefan

Hi Stefan,

yes, I agree. My input was directed at this particular situation, where the discrepancy between the 28-07 release and the reference to a 30-07 download is not transparent.

Cheers
Ralf

Hello,
in the 308 the shortcuts CTRL+F and CTRL+SHIFT+F did toggle the corresponding find/search panels (when alread shown, they were hidden).

Currently using the 309 the panels may be only shown using these shortcuts but not hidden. One has to click around to hide them.

A piece of convenience and habits in product use lost.

Cheers
Piotr

One more reason to put the find box in the toolbar again, which seems to be under way :)
