Five functions that I miss and almost let me go.

Hi Tracker Software Support Team,

since I use my new laptop, the PDF-XChange Editor is now my default PDF tool. Previously I have used the PDF XChange Viewer.
Some new features are very nice and useful, but there are a few points that annoy me right and I hope that I myself was either too stupid to find the function or you can hand them soon:

- The German Translation isn't complete. (This still bothers me the least.)
- No fullscreen view for PDF :(((
- No keyboard shortcut for OCR
- The PDF is after deleting one or more pages no longer in focus, so I only have to click back into the PDF eg for navigation with the keyboard.
- I miss the auto re-open of open PDF-Files after restarting PDF-Editor

All these points are implemented in the viewer, and I learned this very appreciate. But I do not want to install two PDF tools, so it would be great if this features will be added in a future release.

Thanks a lot,
Markus

Hello Marcus,

First I would ask you to download and install the latest Editor build from here:
https://www.pdf-xchange.com/product/downloads

You will then find that
- Restore last session is already there.

- For the OCR there is no default shortcut but you could set up one yourself via View -> Toolbars -> Customize Toolbars... - then click the commands list and search for OCR.

- The issue with files becoming "not in focus" should also be resolved.

- The latest German translation can be found here:
https://www.pdf-xchange.com/editor_lang

- And we are working on Full Screen as well.

Regards,
Stefan

Hello Stefan,

many thank for your reply. Yesterday I was sure to have the newest version, today I find the update. And I like it :)

I found the Check Box "Restore Last Session when application starts." und it works very well.
I could also use the keyboard shortcut, which also works, but unfortunately without the preservation of the focus.
I look forward to the full-screen mode. Thank you for working on it!

To translate: The menus are all fully translated, but in the settings it is a big mess: German headlines, but options in English. It's not that I could not understand this (understanding is also much better than writing), but it's ugly. If I can help in a simple way, I would be quite willing to.

Best regards,
Markus (with "k" ;-) )

Hi Markus,

thanks for your thread! I hope it's okay that I use this thread to talk about functions I miss:

- Autoscroll like in the viewer
- A usable search function just like in the viewer. I already wrote about it some time ago and a somebody told me that you're thinking about making the search function always visible in one of the toolbars, so that the problems would disappear.
- Ctr & +/- to zoom
(- Fullscreen - already mentioned)

I've got a question with regard to the non-blocking mode: In which case are you able to enable it?

Regards,
PeterPan

Thanks both Markus and Peter,

Markus, build 308 is out now and as far as I can tell the Options are in German. It is 308 you are running right? (Help --> About)

Image

can you offer details of what needs to be done in the Options please?

Peter,

autoscroll is slated for 309, the quick find as in the Viewer is still under consideration as to when and how to implement it best and Ctr & +/- to zoom is available in 308.

Hello Paul,

I recently checked all options. Please find in my owncloud* screenshots with version information (the translation file is also downloaded yesterday), and a few pages from the settings with english strings.

Update: image upload to this forum.

Best regards,
Markus

Hi Paul,

thanks for your reply. Ctr & +/- to zoom is indeed available in build 308 but only when you're using the + and - next to the numpad. The other + and - next to the alphanumeric characters doesn't work.

Hi Peter,

I've spoken to the Dev. Team and they've said that they can add this to a future build.

Markus - our translations are done by volunteer translators, so we're reliant on them providing these translations. The new language localization tool was released in conjunction with the latest build, so there's only been a day for them to translate. If you would like to offer a translation, please see here:
https://www.pdf-xchange.com/editor_lang

Cheers,

Hi Will,

thanks for the info. I have looked at the language files and only a lack of translation has been found. But it looks even so, as the file would be incomplete, because the whole "Settings" menu is missing. Also, no readme.txt file was included. My contribution would be rather low: (
However, as already said at the beginning, this "error" is not absolutely serious, just annoying.

Best,
Markus

Hi Markus,

Thanks for the understanding :) I'll contact our previous volunteer and see if he's willing to continue the translations.

Cheers,

Hi Will,

if your previous volunteer doesn't want to continue the translations, I would offer my help to do it for the german language.

Regards

Thanks Peter,

but Mike is continuing and we have in fact received an update from him for inclusion in the next build today - in the event he 'retires' for any reason we will of course be very grateful for your help :)

Cheers
