Hello everybody,
1). In the Set up PDF --> General --> PDF Specification, why is Version 1.4 selected by default?
Because lots of people still use old PDF readers?
2). If I select Version 1.7, will the new PDF file be somehow better, faster or smaller tna if I let the default Version 1.4?
3). The radio button Version PDF/A-1b is dimmed. Why?
4). It is my understanding that I can either sign or certify the pdf document, or password protect it, but NOT sign or certify it AND apply a password unless I am in the Split/Merge window of PDF-Tools 4.0
Right?
5). In 'Document Metadata' --> Description --> Copyright info URL, I typed in a correct URL in the right format (such as http://www.yahoo.com just to test) and then I clicked on the 'Go to URL...' button.
Nothing happened.
What to do?

Hi old.pdf.user,
Thanks for the post!

Also might help if you gave us an overview of specifically what you are attempting to achieve as much of what you are asking is not generally of interest to most users and is of a superfluous nature in many regards...
Cheers,
Thanks for the post!
I believe that is indeed the case.1). In the Set up PDF --> General --> PDF Specification, why is Version 1.4 selected by default?Because lots of people still use old PDF readers?
Version 1.7 simply conforms to the latest specification supported. There are items in 1.7 of the specification that are allowed that weren't allowed in 1.4. I would suggest taking a look here for more information on the PDF Specification:2). If I select Version 1.7, will the new PDF file be somehow better, faster or smaller tna if I let the default Version 1.4?

I'm not sure what radio button you're referring to here. I'm unable to find any such button in the Editor, can you clarify for me?3). The radio button Version PDF/A-1b is dimmed. Why?
As long as the file is password protected before signing/certifying, then you should be able to sign/certify a document afterward. I don't believe that you can sign and certify the same document.4). It is my understanding that I can either sign or certify the pdf document, or password protect it, but NOT sign or certify it AND apply a password unless I am in the Split/Merge window of PDF-Tools 4.0 Right?
I've just tested this here and have found the same thing. I'm not sure whether this is because this is a feature that hasn't yet been implemented, or if it's a bug. I will have to talk with the Dev. Team and get back to you.5). Cheers,
If posting files to this forum, you must archive the files to a ZIP, RAR or 7z file or they will not be uploaded.
Thank you.

Hi Will,
3). See attached image regarding the dimmed radio button Version PDF/A-1b, marked in red.
I am just learning your software and I ask questions for issues I do not know, or I know a bit and want to just double-check.
I have no clue what is of general interest to most users.
If I knew the software as much as you guys know, I would not ask questions.
I suppose it would help PDF software users if every page (step of the screens) had a 'Help' button with a brief explanation for the fields on that page.
===========
PS: the .png image does not load because it's not allowed, and I do not know how to zip it, .rar or .tz.

Re: More questions
Hi old.pdf.user,
This option should be available when you are creating new files (e.g. from Images), but when manipulating existing ones we can not guarantee that when pages are moved between files the PDF/A compatibility will be preserved - hence why this option is disabled when using the "Split/Merge" tool.
Regards,
Stefan
