PDF Hyperlinks in browser plugin don't work
Relative links in PDFs don't work in the Editor plug-in for ie or Firefox. The exact same documents work when forced to use PDF-XChange Viewer plugin 2.5.210.0 in firefox or using Adobe's Acrobat plugin.
If I open the containing folder it is the AppData\Local\temp folder and if I then copy the linked PDF into that directory the link works. So it appears the relative links are based on the temporary directory instead of the URL that the open document is from.
Using PDF XChange Editor Version 3.0 Build 307.1
Thanks,
Greg

Hi Greg,
Thanks for the post - you are using a slightly older build of the Editor, so could you please download and run the following to update and let me know if the issue persists?

Cheers, keep me posted!

Re: PDF Hyperlinks in browser plugin don't work
I uninstalled all versions of PDF XChange, and reinstalled PDF XChange Pro 5.0.273.2 which includes Editor V 3.0 Build 307.2.
The problem still persists in this version.

Hi geeffland,
Thanks for getting back to me - could you send a link to a sample file that demonstrates this issue?

Re: PDF Hyperlinks in browser plugin don't work
Here are 2 pdf files that have relative links to each other. (Created in PDF-XChange 2012 Pro, but that doesn't matter for this demo)
1) Put these 2 files in a website somewhere (local or internet), make sure they are in the same directory.
2) Using either ie or firefox with the PDF XChange plugin enabled, put in the URL to one of the files.
3) Click on the hyperlink
4) Notice nothing happens
5) Now with the open pdf, select File -> Open Containing Folder from the XChange menus
6) Place the second PDF into that directory (should be a Windows\Temp type of folder based on user settings)
7) Click the hyperlink in the original PDF and see that it now opens the PDF you placed in the Temp folder
Alternate Check
1) Disable the Plugin (not sure how on ie, but you can disable on Firefox by selecting Tools > Add-ons, then select Plugins (blue lego icon), select PDF-XChange Editor and click Disable)
2) Delete the file in the Temp Folder from Step 6 above if you put it there
3) If you don't have the Adobe Acrobat plugin or an older V4 PDF-XChange Viewer plugin installed then install it.
4) Now do the above steps 1 thru 3, except on Step 4 it will open the second pdf
This shows that both the older V4 PDF-XChange Viewer plugin and the Adobe Acrobat plugin work the relative link properly and that the newer v5 plugin looks to the Temp folder instead.
Looks like somehow the Editor needs to know it is being access thru the browser plugin and when thru the browser plugin it needs to know the URL of the current PDF so it can use that URL to determine a relative URL.

Re: PDF Hyperlinks in browser plugin don't work
Hi Greg,
Thanks for the samples. I placed them on my desktop - but still opened them in the browser with the browser add-in and they seem to work. Please note that I am using build 307.2 as this is the current latest:
https://www.pdf-xchange.com/product ... nge-editor
So please do make sure to update yourself and let us know if the links are still not working for you.
The image below is from my default browser - Opera, but it also worked in Firefox.
Regards,
Stefan

Re: PDF Hyperlinks in browser plugin don't work
I have already updated to the latest release and the issue still happens [see post above from Thu Mar 27, 2014 2:24 pm]
Opening them from your desktop is not the same as accessing them from a website. When opening from a website the browser downloads a copy into your temporary folder then shows that... that is the part the is confusing the editor. (Note when opening from the dekstop that the url is C:\.... versus http://.....)
To make things easier for you I have uploaded Sample1.PDF and Sample2.PDf to a website... note that the links between them don't work when using http:
http://cbconnector.com/Sample1.pdf

Re: PDF Hyperlinks in browser plugin don't work
Thanks Greg,
Now I see - indeed the Editor is now looking for the second file in the local temp folder:
..\AppData\Local\Temp\Sample2.pdf
I will pass this to the appropriate person.
Cheers,
Stefan
p.s. We've created a ticket in our internal system for this issue:
#2449: Editor 307.2: PDF Hyperlinks in browser plugin don't work
So that we can fix it in a timely manner.

Re: PDF Hyperlinks in browser plugin don't work
Did a fix for this issue get put into PDF XChange Pro 5.0.273.2 released on Apr 17 2014? or how can I know when it is fixed?

Hello geeffland,
No I am afraid that this is not yet fixed, but when it is we will post here in the topic as well as e-mail you directly to let you know.

Re: PDF Hyperlinks in browser plugin don't work
Any idea on when this fits into the priority list for getting fixed? This one issue is a show-stopper for us upgrading our internal versions from version 4 to version 5 since it makes out internal documentation unusable.
Thanks,
Greg

Hi Greg,
Actually this should have been fixed in build 308. Can you please download and test it at your end?
