Deployment Questions

Good Afternoon,

We have about 900 users and have been using PDFXChange for quite awhile now, its a pretty easy app to deploy overall but i'm struggling right now. Due to the fact that Editor is so much different than Viewer the settings don't/won't come across. Because of that fact many users are asking us to remove the editor all together. I basically want to deploy the Tools and PDFXChange Pro without the editor, is that possible? We use System Centre Configuration Manager as our desktop management system, so we prefer all the MSI based installers if we can use them, but we can support *.exe type installers as well.

If the viewer is going to go away as a product eventually, maybe this isn't worth the effort and I can force my users to start migrating to editor. I would really rather not have both installed.

thanks for the reply, before the editor got released I was using the "PDF-XChange PRO" MSI Installer for both 32bit and 64bit. I will use whatever installer you want me to use to achieve my goal of basically having everything except the Editor. I need PDF Tools & PDF Viewer. I would prefer this to be an MSI based installer, but we can't always get what we want

Thanks for getting back to me - you certainly should be able to do this with the msi installer, however, you will need to use two; the PRO MSI and the Viewer MSI. The Viewer has been replaced in the PRO installers, by the Editor, so the option to install the Viewer is no longer present.

Is the Editor mandatory inside the PRO installer? i'm not able to try right now, but I though I had attempted to install with the PRO installer minus the Editor and it failed.

Hi denysp,

You should be able to chose whether or not you want the Editor component installed. When you have a moment to try, you should be able to do this by simply not including F_Viewer.

Ok i'm very close. I've created an MST file with what i think is the correct properties (for both the Pro installer and the viewer installer). I have managed to get it to install properly without the Editor, and then install the viewer with a seperate MSI. The only problem i'm having is that the PDF Tools don't seem to recognize the key. There is a registry entry that has the KEY, with the correct value(and i'm specifying KEY as a property in the MST file). But the tools under Preferences --> About says that the license type is "Demo Version"

can you please point me in the right direction?

Will, I tried it on a clean machine and it works fine. Must have been all the install/uninstalls causing issues.
