PDF-XChange Editor OCR bug (all versions after 3.0.304)

If you open a PDF which contains text saved as image (scanned, etc)
and perform an OCR, and pick "preserve original" when it finishes the
OCR the page will be blank, you have to undo, redo, and it fixes it.

Please install build 307.1 and "Preserve Original Content and add Text Layer on Top" should work properly.

The other option "Create new Searchable PDF" is know to be problematic in this build and we will fix it in the next one.

Even in 307.1 the preserve function still turns the PDF being OCR'd all white,
so clicking undo and then redo fixes it, it seems to be a cosmetic bug as the
OCR still works, just that it turns the screen white after it finishes OCR'ing.

Thanks for the posts - this is a known issue with the current build and you should find that this is fixed for build 307.2, which is due for release in the next 7-10 days.

Just a quick comment to let you know I tested 3.0.307.2 and the OCR bug still remains.
I tested the 64 bit edition this time, but I've seen the same on 32 bit running 3.0.307.1

After it does the OCR you can select all text and it selects it, except it just shows the highlights not text,
and also not the original image that was being OCR'd, to fix just do the old undo and redo.

Not a big deal, probably just didn't make it on the list of items corrected, although release log shows an OCR bug fix, hmm.

Thanks for the post - I can't reproduce this issue with the latest build of the Editor. Can you please double check that you are in fact running the latest build? It may be that the update didn't go through properly.

If you're definitely using 307.2, then please do send a sample file for us to test here.

I've grabbed 3.0.307.2 from downloads again - ZIP installer (32/64 bit) | 52 MB
and also verified in About menu that I'm running 3.0.307.2 and here's the sample.

Note that it does it on all image PDF's I've tried so far ...

Open the pdf from "Open" on the Toolbar, then Document, OCR Pages...
and "Preserve Original Content and Add Text Layer" and hit OK.

The page will become all white, and it will get fixed after an undo and redo.

Thanks for the update and the file - this is really odd, as the file that you sent in, is the only document that I was able to reproduce this with.

Nonetheless, I've reproduced it and have created an internal Development ticket to track the progress of the issue. The ticket number is RT-2324, so please reference this ticket number or forum thread when requesting updates to the status of tickets.

Sounds good !

That particular file was produced from Google Chrome (print to PDF option)
by viewing a PNG file in Chrome and printing to a PDF to create an image PDF.
