Relative Links not working

Post by FRiFt »

Hello Tracker Team,

we are trying to print an excel sheet with relative links to pdf with pdf-exchange printer 2012, but it doesnt seem to work.
the text in the pdf has the blue underlined text, but it isnt a hyperlink anymore(not clickable with the hand tool), if we prefix it in excel with a driveletter(absolute path), its working as expected.
is there any way to keep the relative paths working when printing to pdf?
Thanks in advance!

best regards

Hello FRiFt,

Are you using File -> Print in excel or the MS Office add-in that comes with our printing drivers?
Also if you can supply a sample excel document and the resulting correct and incorrect PDFs we would check them for you.

Stefan

Hello Stefan,

we are using File-->Print. The Addons sometimes cause problems, so we deactivate them here.
We set the option for "Analyze URL's in printed Text" and "Detect Filenames and Convert to PDF Links" and even tried "Check Files Exist For Linking"(which doesnt give an error), but the relative links still arent clickable ;(
Im sorry, i cant provide a file, but it should be easy to test it.
Just type "=HYPERLINK(A1)", where the filename is typed into cell "A1" and print it.
If cell A1 = "c:\test\test.pdf" the link works
If cell A1 = "test.pdf" the link doesnt work

Best regards!

Hi FRiFt,

When you use "file - print" no link information is sent to the printing device as it has no meaning when printing to paper, so your "relative links" simply become plan text. This then can not be recognized as a proper link by the "Analyze URL's in printed Text" feature. The solution is to create the PDF file using either the Office add-in or Excel's own export to pdf feature, and this should generate links that would later be recognized.

Regards,
Stefan
