How to redact

Post by Josh »

Hi there,

Could someone please document what the steps are for redacting an unsecured text based PDF file. I'm not sure I'm doing it in the most efficient manner and I need to provide the proper steps to our users. I checked the Help\Contents menu but the info on redaction is vague. Also,if you could please clarify the steps for redacting a single item vs. multiple items at once, that would be great.

Thanks.

Hi Stefan,

While that's helpful for general editing, I'm still not sure I'm doing the redaction properly. Once I 'Edit Content', I select the text I want to redact and then select Document\Redaction\Mark for Redaction. The selected text appears blackened but has a red boarder around the blackened section. If I close and then re-open the document, if I select the blackened text again, I'm able to see the text underneath the blackened section.

Obviously I'm doing something wrong ;-). Hence, if step-by-step instructions could be provided on how to properly redact, that would be great.

Thanks.

Hi Josh,

Ahh - apologies - I was thinking of Editing and you want redaction.
So go to Document -> Redaction -> Mark for Redaction, and select the text areas you want.
After that go to Document -> Redaction -> Apply all redactions, and the original text would be removed.
If you have made a few redaction markings, but only want to actually remove the text from one of those places - you can right click the black rectangle and select "Apply selected redaction(s)".

Best,
Stefan
