Lost Desktop Preview Ikons and File Explorer Prievws

I installed pdf editor 3.0.306x64 over 3.0.5x64 on Windows 8.1x64 and have lost the Desktop Preview Ikons and File Explorer Previews
The help file says that the Shell Extension that handles Previews is an optional item and that if you do not know this you may miss it.
I tried reruning the msi and choosing a Custom rather than a Complete Installation but did not find any Shell Extension Option.
HELP, :( Stephen

Hi Stephen,

Thanks for the post - the Shell Extensions have not yet been integrated with the Editor, but should be in a future release. I'm afraid that I don't have any ETA on when this will be, but we're hoping that it won't be too long.

Cheers,

I also lost my Windows Explorer previews after installing the Editor. But since I am still using the old Free Viewer as my default pdf viewer, isn't there some way I could just get it back to the way it was before? Has the Editor permanently deleted file(s) needed for Explorer's pdf previews??? I am happy to remain with the Viewer, as I really don't care for the Editor's GUI and very much like the Viewer's.....Do I need to uninstall the Editor for pdf previews in Explorer?? Why wouldn't the Viewer's shell extensions work?

Hi Janet,

if you run the Viewer installer again it will put Shell Extensions in there again. The you will have both Editor and Viewer with previews. That should be a decent work around until the shell extensions are added to the Editor installer. https://www.pdf-xchange.com/PDFXVwer.zip

Alternatively, if you have a license for the PDF-Change Pro bundle it will install the Editor with the original shell extensions for preview.

Many thanks for your prompt reply! There already is a Shell Extensions folder in my PDF-XChangeViewer folder.... Does reinstalling in some way reactivate them...?

Hi Janet,

indeed it needs to be set as active. The simplest way to do that is to run the installer again.

Had the same problem... and I'm an experienced Windows user.
Please, how do I register ONLY the shell component without installing also old XChange-Viewer?

I kept the "C:\Program Files\Tracker Software\Shell Extensions" from Viewer install and tried the usual 'regsvr32 XCShInfo.dll' but didn't work...

Hello hexaae,

You need the Viewer + the Shell extension dll for the previews to work properly. This should only be a temporary inconvenience while we introduce the Editor specific shell extension (planned for build 307).

Stefan

Hi hexaae,

Yes - that's the current schedule, however please note that this is still not yet confirmed as implemented, but if all goes well it should indeed be in the next build.

Stefan
