Comparison-Editor to PDF Viewer PRO

Post by hmw »

I own PDF Exchange Viewer PRO, as well as PDF Tools and PDF-Exchange Lite 4. They are installed on a Windows XP PRO SP3 computer.

From reading this forum and your website, it appears that the new Editor will replace the Exchange Viewer over time. I found (https://www.pdf-xchange.com/PDFXEdi ... csheet.pdf) a list of what is contained in the new Editor, but since I don't have the Viewer PRO, Tools and Exchange features committed to memory, I don't know what the differences are. Can you provide me information on what the differences are, and perhaps why I would want to use Editor over Viewer PRO, Tools and Exchange?

I also found the following re: updates to Editor from Viewer:
"b) You purchased one of our products incorporating the PDF-XChange Viewer PRO prior to Jan 1st 2012 - but your maintenance expired on or after May 31st 2012 and you have not renewed your maintenance. We will provide as necessary a serial number giving full unrestricted access to the full feature set of the PDF-XChange Editor Gold build free of charge."

I purchased Tools on ~12/1 2011, according to my printout of your billing information. That purchase allowed me to upgrade my Viewer to PRO, and also qualified me to install Exchange Lite . That billing statement says my Maintenance Plan expired 12/2/2012. So does that quality me for an upgrade as stated in 'b' above?

And finally, if I decide to try Editor, does it get installed OVER my Viewer PRO, on in a separate directory? If separate, can I continue to run Viewer PRO, Tools, etc. while evaluating Editor?

Thanks. Viewer PRO is a great product.

Hi Harry,

Thanks for the post - I'll answer each point in turn:

1) We don't have any kind of comparison chart, so the best that I can suggest, would be to use the document from the link that you posted, to compare the two side by side:
https://www.pdf-xchange.com/product ... ature_list

2) Can you clarify whether by "12/2/2012" you are referring to December 2nd, 2012 or to the 12th of February? (Different countries do this differently).

3) The Editor and the Viewer are able to co-exist, so you should be able to install the two side-by-side, with no problems.

Cheers,

Sorry. December 2, 2012. And I purchased it about December 1, 2011.

HI hmw,

your license Purchased: 2 Dec, 2011 maintenance Expires: 2 Dec, 2012 so it doesn't have currently valid maintenance. Unfortunately your purchase was before the Dec 31st 2011 cut off date (See here https://www.pdf-xchange.com/company ... s/view/127 ) - licenses purchased on or after Jan 01 2012 will get a free Editor key. This means there will be an upgrade cost involved for you. If you had maintained your maintenance (pun intended  ) then you would get it for free.

This also explains how upgrade works: https://www.pdf-xchange.com/knowled ... the-Editor

I hope that helps.
Best regards

Paul:

Thanks for the information links, as well as the pun.

But if I am not eligible, then what you posted in that press event you referenced appears wrong. Here is what that release said:
************************
4: We have promised we would be generous when it came to offering an upgrade path to the Editor due to the delays in releasing and in keeping with this here are the rules in regards the upgrade options that will apply;

b) You purchased one of our products incorporating the PDF-XChange Viewer PRO prior to Jan 1st 2012 - but your maintenance expired on or after May 31st 2012 and you have not renewed your maintenance. We will provide as necessary a serial number giving full unrestricted access to the full feature set of the PDF-XChange Editor Gold build free of charge.
************************
It seems to me that I meet the two conditions in b): purchased prior to Jan 1, 2012 [I purchased December 1, 2011), and maintenance expired after May 31, 2012 (mine expired December 2, 2012), and I have not renewed my maintenance.

Am I not reading this release correctly?
