Open a document where I left it

Post by Mr_AQ »

Hello! I am using PDF XChange Editor version 6.0. I know how to set the Editor to always open a document at a certain page; but I want to open a document at "last viewed" location, where I left reading last time, whereas it always opens at page 1. I have other documents which open fine, i.e. at the last-viewed location, but this one document is not working fine. Any help?

Hello,
Have you checked this documents settings (CTRL+D) to see if it has any settings to always open to a certain page? And then checked to see if the editor is set to respect document settings or not?
Hope that helps you get somewhere with this one. Odd that it is only the one document though...

I have tried both, by checking the "Respect document's settings" as well as unchecking it; but the problem persists. In the document settings (CTRL+D) dialog box, the "Open to Page" option is set to 1 for all the documents (including the ones which open at last-viewed location).
To clarify, I perhaps myself previously set this (mis-behaving) document to always open at page 1; but now I want to cancel this setting, and I am looking for a way to do that.

In PDF-XChange Editor, just open the file in question and the click File > Save as Optimized.
Un-check everything, except "Discard Objects" and there only check "Discard all JavaScript actions".
Click OK and save to a new PDF. If the resulting file is OK, then replace the original file by this one.

I am adding on to this, because I have a quite similar problem. In a new installation of the Editor (v.7) on a new computer, files don't open to the last position. I have searched the Options, but I can't find the option to set to make this happen. Can anyone help with this?

Thank you!

It's impossible to lead us astray for we don't care even to choose the way.

Hello folks! Please excuse me for late reply, I was out of town for few days.
Willy Van Nuffel! There is no Save as Optimized or any similar command in File menu; I have even tried "Reset Settings" in Edit menu. I have also searched for it in "Customize Toolbars" dialog box.

Hello Mr_AQ,

First please make sure that you have the latest build of the Editor (324.2), and then - are you using the free or licensed version of the same?
If using the free version - you can go to Help -> License Key and then uncheck the box that hides all licensed features, and you should see the discussed option after that.

Regards,
Stefan
