Printing From A Service

Post by nkm »

I'm unable to print from a service. Are there specific options that need to be set to allow this? I've looked through the options list and have set all the save.options.

The Printing Application is being run under an XYNT service. The document name, owner, pages, and submitted appear correctly in the pdfprinter device queue. However no events get triggered. The document gets cleared out of the queue with no response back to the application.

When printing directly from the application, all events are triggered correctly and the save.options appear to be working correctly.

Let me know if there is additional information needed.

I am not able to help you with your issue directly so I have asked our dev guys for help.
We should be able to update this topic a bit later.

Thanks for the response. This can be tested using the software mentioned below.

Driver Event Logging: From your site
PDFdriverAPI C# example
https://www.pdf-xchange.com/product ... rivers-api

XYNT Service: download also contains .ini and .exe for ease of use
http://www.codeproject.com/KB/system/xyntservice.aspx

Printing Application: C:\Windows\System32\notepad.exe
notepad.exe

Instructions:
1) Print 'asdfds' from regular notepad.exe and view events logged in the C# application
2) Install XYNTService using command prompt or install.bat w/ XYNTService -i
3) Run XYNT service (it will pop up a new notepad window)
4) Print 'asdfdsa' from the service notepad and view no events logged in the C# application

Hi Ivan,

Have you been able to reproduce the problem? If any additional resources are needed, please let me know. The team would like to begin testing the application as soon as possible.

Here is some more information: if the service allows UserInterface for the printing application, all .Save options on the PDF XChange printer are overruled and no events get triggered but the file still gets printed. For example, even after setting set_Option("Save.ShowSaveDialog", false), the printer still pops up the save file dialog.

Hi nkm,

just a heads up that we have been looking into this and Ivan believes he knows what the problem is. We have done some preliminary work on a fix but need to check it thoroughly before implementing to ensure it does not adversely affect other methods of driver communication.

Once this is all fully tested and checked we will advise a formal release date etc ...

Hi Paul,

Thank you for your efforts. We decided to module out the printer from the main project for now. However, PDF-XChange is faster than our current solution, offers a temporary print device, and the SDK is excellent. We hope to upgrade to your product soon.

Hello Tracker-Support,

can you post when you expect to get this fixed. We have the same problem while printing from our windows-services which is the main use of pdf printer in our application. Version 184,189 work fiine in context of service - 195,197 don't.

But with 184,189 we have trouble in uninstalling, windows-spooler crashes. This issue is fixed in 195...

Hello Ingo,

I am afraid that there hasn't been much movement on the ticket.
It is assigned to a developer, and is under investigation, but I have not heard anything specific yet. Will raise the priority of the ticket now - so that it gets addressed faster.

Hi ikuning,

there was nothing on the ticket telling me it was fixed for the current build which usually means it is still actively being worked on. I've asked for an update on the status of this and will post the response here.

Hi,

the end of autumn is over...I tried build 200, still the same behaviour. Please remeber build 184,189 worked fine! Is it so hard to check what changed between the builds?

Hello Ingo Kuning,

Yes - ver3 is not yet ready, but we are now checking whether we could fix this for build 201 which should be released much sooner than ver3.

Hi,

I'm demoing v4.0 Build 201 in c# with VS2008.

I created a Windows service to create and setup printers but
* I can't manage to trigger any event, i'm mostly interested in OnFileSaved
* some options are not taken into account, like Saver.ShowProgress

I saw in the post that build 201 may fix that, but does not seems to

Could you please update me?

Best regards

Hello Laurent,

I just tried the C# sample project - and it's indeed not correctly updating the text with the event notifications as expected - but I am now checking with my colleagues whether this is just a problem with the sample project.
