Bad install after upgrade

Post by pjf_57 »

Hi team,

I had previously installed v3 on my new Win 7 laptop, found the license didn't work, and purchased the upgrade to PDFX4SA_LE.

I uninstalled the v3 and installed the v4. But can't get it to work. I have been through more than 10 uninstall v4 reinstall v4 cycles. Behaviour seems to be one of the following :

a) Although I can see pdfsaver and the manuals in the start menu, I can't see the printer in the printers list (or control panel -> printers)

b) I can see the printer in the printers list, and also can select it in a file->print menu, but when I go to print I get "preparing",then "printer not responding" then a new dialog "failed to print".

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks,
Peter

Hi pjf_57,

PDF-XChange 4 Lite has been tested in Windows 7 quite thoroughly and should 'just work'. Do you have any Firewall or Security applications running that might be blocking it? Did you run the installer as Administrator? In Windows 7 you should be able to right click the installer and select "Run as Administrator". This will ensure you have full rights to install the print driver.

let me know how that goes.

Paul

Hi Paul,

I reinstalled using "right click the installer and select "Run as Administrator"" and that worked fine. Funny, my win 7 user account has me configured as an administrator.

Thanks for your help,
Peter

Hi again pjf_57

even since XP there has been a difference between the real "Administrator Account" and user accounts "with Administrative privileges". See this article by Microsoft for enabling the "Built-In Administrator Account".
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/libr ... 10%29.aspx

Note that it is not recommended to use this account. That is why run as Administrator is available. Try googling "Win 7 true administrator account" or similar and you'll see lots of discussion about this.

cheers

It seems to be I have the same problems on Win7 and PDFEditor V4.0 Build 308.2:
So as "normal" user I can start PDFTools but not PDFEditor. Every start it pops up in the list of apps but then disappears again.
So I uninstalled all and reinstalled as administrator (I did before but the update I am not sure how). In the account of the admin all works fine. As normal user I can start after I changed to "run as admin".
But the PDF files cannot get opened by double click. The behaviour is as before!

Hi winkelmann,

Thanks for the post - if you're using build 308.2, then please download and run the following installer to update to build 311:
https://www.pdf-xchange.com/PDFT4.zip
**When asked to download and install the Editor, please say yes.

Hi all,
I have a similar problem in installing the driver.
I have a regular license for PDF-Xchange Editor, but when install last version of driver PDF-Xchange (312.1) (running the installer as Administrator on a Win XP sp 3), the whole process goes fine, the license is regularly checked and installed, I set the printer as default one, but after system restart as requested, I don't see any new printer installed.
Any suggestion?
Thanks in advance for any response.
Best regards,

Vito

Hi Vito,

Thanks for the post - could you please tell me that exact name of the installer being used?

Hi Will,
The first installation process was started automatically by Tracker software updater and at the end of the process I got the system pop-up message "unable to complete the process"; after the system restart I not found a new printer. During installation the program normally raised my current software license for PDF-Xchange Editor.
Same in a second try, that I did manually by the c:\....Local Data\Temp\TrackerUpdate\Download\PDFX5SA_LE_312.1.exe, I got same pop-up message and same printer missing.
Some days ago I provided the upgrade of new release of PDF-Xchange Editor (312.1), by tracker updater too, and all is gone well.
Thanks for your help.
Best regards,
Vito

Hi Vito,

Could you try downloading and running the following installer, to update Lite and see if the same issue occurs:
https://www.pdf-xchange.com/PDFX5SA_LE.zip

Hi Will,
Unfortunately it has not resolved.
The same I got the windows message "Stampanti: Impossibile completare l'operazione" (Printers: Impossible to complete the operation), and at the restart i not see the new printer.
If I manually launch the pdfsaver i see the icon in tray bar, but in anyway I can't do printing in pdf.
The only way for me now, has been to revert to previous version of PCFxChange 4 driver, with my old license.
I think it may be a problem related to windows printing services or some likely, but I am not a system specialist and so have not any interpretation.
Thanks for help.
Best regards,
Vito

Hi Vito,

how would you feel about a remote session where we can take a look first hand at this? Take a look at this article on how we use TeamViewer and if you want us to take a look please fill out the indemnity form and give us your credentials for login.

Hi Paul,
Sorry, but a remote session is not possible because of tightening network and security policies of my company.
The only thing I could say you is that installing version 4 or version 5 with theirs respective licenses, carried on a perfectly similar process. The only difference is the message that windows pops up at the end of installation, for a short instant, before the system restart.
Maybe any trouble in my registry or system services, but now I have no time to ... " clear the windows" ( ); ... too much pending works!
In next months, having more time, I will try some deep investigation and if I'll solve the mistery I will post the solution on this forum.
For now I make me happy to use previous version. It's good form me.
Thanks too for your help.
Best regards,
Vito.

Hi Vito,

We appreciate your patience and understanding. When you have the time, we are looking forward to your reply. Some things to look for:
Registry cleaner: Sometimes registry cleaners will remove necessary entries causing similar problems. It is my recommendation that you do not use registry cleaners at all.
Antivirus: Some antivirus programs return a false positive, or simply block our installer from completing correctly. If this is the case, try deactivating those antivirus while installing.

I hope this helps!
