Printer Instance survives...

Post by Sage Software »

Hello Tracker support,

we currently use PDF-XChange v4.0.160 to create PDF-files with our software.

We found a problem when using PDF-XChange on a terminal server.

When our software is started in a terminal server session, PDF-XChange creates an instance of the printer driver for each user that connects to the terminal server and uses our software. When the user correctly closes our software this instance of the printer driver vanishes after about 60 seconds. Even if one kills our software with the task manager the instance of the printer driver vanishes.
But if the user just closes the terminal server session (without closing our software) and the terminal server automatically kills this session after some time, this instance of the printer driver survives. If the user reconnects to the terminal servers and starts our software, a new instance of the printer driver is created without killing the old one.

Is there any way to get rid of that behaviour? Convincing our customers to always correctly closing the terminal server session is unfortunately not an option.

Thank you for the help.

Hi Jörn,

I'm sorry to hear you are having issues with the software. Can you update to the latest version on the Terminal Server? Build 184 is curent. Do get back to us if you continue to have issues after updating.

Sincerely
Best regards

Hi Tracker Support,

we tested it with the current version (Build 184) and there's no change in behaviour, so this problem still exists.

Hi,

The solution as I assume you are using our SDK is to include a routine on your starting your app to kill the orphaned printers - there is a thread in our SDK forum relating to this - please see :

https://forum.pdf-xchange.com/ ... =43&t=8321

Please see the drivers API help file also regarding use of the function : RemoveOrphanPrinters

HTH
If posting files to this forum - you must archive the files to a ZIP, RAR or 7z file or they will not be uploaded - thank you.

Best regards

Hi Sage Software,

we currently have a support request still open for this issue. Did John's suggestion resolve things for you?

As we have not heard from you in over a month on this we will be closing the ticket. Please respond to this thread if you still require our assistance.

sincerely
Best regards

Hello,

my developer told me, that he already uses the function "RemoveOrphanPrinters". Unfortunately we are in the middle of something else, so he can't cope with this issue right now. So, please close this ticket for now. I will get back to you as soon as we take a closer look at this problem again.
