Table content truncated when generating PDF

Post by jimmy4vb »

I use a requirements management tool (DOORS) which prints in a table format. When choosing the PDF-XChange 4.0 printer, the preview looks fine but in the final rendered document the cell contents are truncated (see attached preview.jpg and print.jpg images).

I am running this on Windows XP SP2 with PDF-XChange V4.0.0 Build 0145.

The temp file instructions appear to be for version 3 (I am using version 4) but I was able to set the flag in the pdfsaver.exe and generated my PDF file. However, it appears that no files of the form pxc*.tmp or pdf*.xml were generated (I verified the setting and did a complete search of all my hard drives and found nothing.).

Are the file names and the process for temp file management the same for version 4 as it was for version 3?

From the instructions:
Tracker Support wrote:(assumes you have PDF-XChange PRO and acceptd the default installation location - otherwise you will need to amend for the correct info)
I don't know if it matters, but I have PDF-XChange Standard.

I have attached the problem PDF file and the temp file.

Hi,

No it does not matter (Standard V PRO) provided you were able to 'run' and use the Tweak option ok.

thanks we will investigate and report back.

Hi,
Looking at the content of the tmp files - the text is already truncated/missing before PDF generation starts - this suggests strongly that your application 'Doors' has trouble with the calculation of the size required to place the text in some cases.

Best suggestion here is to modify the DPI setting in the PDF-XChange Printer properties setup at print time

Hope that helps to resolve.

I changed the "Resolution:" setting to 200 in the "Graphic" section and the document appears to render correctly. How is the graphic resolution affecting the appearance and disappearance of text printing in a table?

On printing (or drawing) application calculate dimension of the box which will be occupied by the text in pixels.
And if there are two different routines which make the same calculation but using, say, different rules of rounding float point numbers, they can get different boxes. It is a reason why on preview and on the 'paper' you have different result.
Why DPI has meaning? With different DPI the sizes of such boxes (in pixels) are different.
