Online Manual: Some questions ...

Post by Peter2 » Tue Dec 03, 2013 11:52 am

Hi

I started to work through the online-manual http://help.tracker-software.com/eu/default.aspx, and maybe there will be some questions which I want to post here step by step (if I found some).

Is it OK?

Here is the first one:

Chapter "Paper":
Margin: Change the Margin settings for the page – note these will be set to the bottom and right hand side of the page – should you desire more control over the margin settings, please do so within your originating document software before PDF generation.
I tried it - it is not only bottom and right hand side, it is on all sides. What is correct?

Hi Peter,

Thanks for those comments. Passing them to the person responsible for the manual to be taken into account.

Hi Peter,

Thanks for the feedback both points have been addressed in the online manual.

Best,

Resolution: Set the desired 'DPI' (Dots per inch) for the file pages. This can be any value from 50 to 2400 DPI
72 to 2400

Chapter: The Graphics Property page
I'm not sure about (and it is not described in manual) what the two fields with the pixels are good for ..
I supposed it means "convert to 'the value of first field' if the DPI is greater than 'value of second field'" (e.g. 110 -> stays 110; 129 -> 96; 400 -> 96)
Right?

Coloured images:
What is the difference in conversion to "Monochrome" or "Black and White"?

Monochrome:
Also the value "Threshold" is not described. Does it mean "if DPI is greater than threshold, then convert to BW; otherwise do nothing"?
What is "Monochrome"? Only one colour? Maybe not - how to convert one colour to grayscale? Or is "threshold" the number of colours? "If number of colours > threshold, then convert to ..."

Online Manual loses "Content navigation"

Post by Peter2 » Tue Dec 03, 2013 10:36 pm

Sometimes it happens, that the navigation pane on the left side loses the chapter "Product Manual". When I want to select the next detailed chapter, the navigation changes and everything goes back to "home".

Last example: http://help.tracker-software.com/eu/def ... 5:graphics
(I changed from Firefox to IE - same behaviour)

Hi Peter,
Resolution: Set the desired 'DPI' (Dots per inch) for the file pages. This can be any value from 50 to 2400 DPI
Is correct, even though 50 DPI is not included in the most common DPI selections drop down, you can enter any value between 50 and 2400 as stated.
Monochrome (single colour against a neutral background)
Black and White (black against white background)
~has been added to the graphics section

I've passed on the Threshold entry to our development team to add to the manual as it is not a topic I am familiar with. That will be updated in the online manual in the near future.

Clicking the link to me straight to the page with the contents tab fully expanded. Sometimes there are small bugs with the Online Manual software we purchased to make the online manual site with, if you have another example please send it support@tracker-software.com so we can try and recreate the behaviour and report it to the developers of the electronic manual software.

I have reviewed the video and will look into it further.

Thanks again,
Chris

Hi Peter,

I tried to reproduce the issue from the video using Firefox 25.0.1 and it did not reset the contents pane.

And using IE 10 ver 10.0.0.1 did not show this and it did not reset the contents pane.

And using Opera 12.0.1 did not show this and it did not reset the contents pane.

Nor was the behaviour present in Chrome ver 32

See if updating your browser versions helps.

best,
Chris

Right?....
This question is still unclear.

I use FF 25.0.1 and IE 10.0.11, and I believe this behaviour is depending on time or on other commands. It happens not always and not immediately, but when working half an hour with some browser tabs (help + forum + other tabs) plus different software, then it happens. And not only from the link I posted above; it happened also with other links.

Just now ...
- I used it and then went away, page http://help.tracker-software.com/eu/def ... 5:graphics was opened.
- PC went to standby.
- I came back, woke up the PC and logged in
- Then I pressed Chapter "Compression".
- "Compression" was displayed, but the navigation changed (see Spam message posted by BOT engine - ignore - to be deleted by admin above).

Watermark settings

Post by Peter2 » Wed Dec 04, 2013 9:06 am

In Watermark settings the list of watermarks can be sorted with the button right (up, down, ..).

Which effect has the order of the list on the result? First entry is on top, last on bottom? Or is no effect on result, only sorting for the user?

Chapter "Save":
Please refer to Document Naming Macros for a complete description of the powerful Document Naming macros supplied with PDF-XChange 5.
The embedded link starts the "Home" page, not the "macro-page".

Chapter "Profile"
A profile when saved stores a specific range of settings for the PDF-XChange Printer, for example
Is it possible to describe more detailed which settings are inside the specific range - or which settings are outside the range?

Offfice2PDF, Version 5.5/271

The "Help-command" in Menu "Info" starts this link (which is error 404)
http://help.tracker-software.com/enduse ... Office2PDF

the sub-chapters of http://help.tracker-software.com/eu/def ... e2pdf_2012 has a text which links to "Option" which is dead.

This has been passed onto the development team to add to the manual as it is beyond my understanding of the topic.

RE video: I believe the intermittent bug is in the software we purchased that creates and presents the online manuals, I've passed the issue on to them to have a look at.
In Watermark settings the list of watermarks can be sorted with the button right (up, down, ..).

Which effect has the order of the list on the result? First entry is on top, last on bottom? Or is no effect on result, only sorting for the user?
That is merely an organization tool for the user to place the watermarks entered in the list into whatever order they want, and the only effect would be the order in which watermarks are applied to the document if multiple watermarks are selected to be applied.

Regarding the links going to home, that is something new that just started happening it's not affecting the Editor manual if you view the links through selecting the pro bundle or the Editor manual on it's own. But appears to be effecting the PDF-Tools and PDF-XChange Standard manuals which were created exactly the same so I am working with the software developer to address these issues. Sorry for any inconvenience

I'll be back when I find out more.

The Profiles:
all settings are included and saved in the profile, but you can set whatever settings you want and then save them to a specific profile, so range just means the settings you change to create a specific profile. I guess "variety" of settings may work better for your understanding there is no included or excluded settings, all settings are saved in a profile.

So for example:

I want a profile that prints onto letterhead via an overlay and sets the security permissions to print only.

So I set the Overlay and Security settings which is my "range" of altered settings for the profile.

The OFFice2PDF section
used to be a separate merged manual so I will fix the links.

Thanks,
Chris

I've fixed the links in the OFFice2PDF section which work within it's own project:

Save section: http://help.tracker-software.com/PDFXST ... ageid=save

OFFice2PDF section: http://help.tracker-software.com/PDFXST ... e2pdf_2012

But looks like there is an issue accessing the links from the End user manuals portal, that is only effecting the Standard 2012 and PDF-Tools 4 manuals, so I am working on that with the makers of the manual software.

Hi Peter2,

So a couple of bugs have been identified and workarounds put in place. The Standard 2012 manual should function alot better now. Please let me know if you find any further issues.

Known issue: image map links are not working as expected for the MSOffice plugin and MSOutlook plugin, both settings pages are supposed to link back to the same settings topics that are already available in the Printer 2012 settings section, so you will be familiar with the topics when looking at these 2 sections.

Best,
Chris
