Hello kashiash,

I will ask one of our Clarion guys to take a look here, but can you please first check that you are using the latest build (2.5.200) and if the problem still persists - can you check whether your application is always failing on the same file - and if it does - can you attach the problematic file here.

Best,
Stefan

Hi!

I've moved this topic to the PDF-XChange Viewer for Clarion forum.

We have another report of this involving PDF-to-Print using the ActiveX, but the problem does not appear to be in the ActiveX at all, but in the Clarion RTL. It has been reported to SoftVelocity as PTSS #39063.

To verify that this is the same problem, I need to have you send me two things. When you get the exception it should display the stack and exception information. Please save information in a text file, and then email that and also your application's MAP file to me at the email address to the right of this post.

Thanks!

Hi!

Confirmed. It is the same bug in the RasieAbort function in the Clarion RTL.

You are the second operson to see this. It's in"recent" releases of Clarion 8, but not sure how far back the error goes.

I will update the PTSS error report.

Sadly, NO! The original Clarion 8 PTSS is STILL open, and Clarion 9 seems to suffer from the same affliction. Plus there are NEW problems that did not exist in Clarion 8. We have supplied them with sample app and test files but so far, nothing. :(

Note that all the issues I've seen involve a breakdown inside the Clarion Run-Time Library (RTL), so it shouldn't be anything we're doing.

The best analysis I can give you is that I believe that the problem lies in the RTL's internal event handling.Anything you can do to limit generating lots of events inside the ActiveX will be a halep. For instance, you can disable the smooth scrolling and go to page-by-page scrolling instead. That will eliminate quite a few events.

I "think" I am having the same issue. Using c9, the ActiveX control acts fine until I use my mouse wheel. 99% of the time, when the mouse wheel is used - the next call to any ActiveX command (Print, Save what have you) results in an exception. I can resize the window, I can use the mouse and click the scroll bar and drad it up or down. But using the mouse wheel will then cause the next command to fail.

I also, don't understand how to set smooth scrolling on the OLE container. Never heard or seen this property in Clarion.

Are there ay other known work arounds?

Thanks

Andy

in clarion 9.1 problem still exist. i find one version clarion 8 and 1 version xchange sdk where this error not happens. But when i instal nevest xchange sdk on the same clarion this gpf appear.
In my opinion problem is not only on SV side. in example other Activex work properly: i.e codejock, adobe reader or TX control.

Thanks for the reply. I use all of those products. I have no idea how to change the scrolling they suggested to you. Did you try that? If so, how and did it work at all? Have you had any work around that helped? Thanks.

Just tried my simple demo app on latest C9.1.11054 and same problem.
Running in Debug mode with the Debug CLARun.dll
Clarion RTL internal exception
wxeh.cpp:193 - RaiseLong

Is there any work around for this?

Any help appreciated as my project cannot move to C9 or 9.1 with this issue uresolved.

Thanks
Carl

let me guess: after examining the problem, you write that it is a clarion bug ... "It has been reported to SoftVelocity as PTSS #39063"

Would you prefer we did that ?

Respectfully, what in our track record with you or any other client gives you the justification to make such an unfair and unjustified comment?

No - we are investigating and will state the facts as they are once we have completed our investigation.

no, i prefer you'll solve the problem.
Try understand me ... i wait for solution almost 3 years. I use other Activex from other 3rdparty developers. But problem is only with Xchange. I take the same version/build of clarion (8.0.9304), one PDFviewer version works (from 2011 ), but another no. It is very difficult to understand why its problem is on SV side.

Excellent - then on that basis then we will proceed, and for your info - the issue is with Clarion as none of other developer clients developing many 1000's of C++/VB/DOTNET/ASP or hoards of other applciations experience the same issue.

Hi,
We have disabled all event handling and this seems to stabilize things - we are now checking the cause of the issue with event handling - but if you are interested in what we have so far with event handling we would be pleased to let you that now as an interim step ...

Locate the file by the same name as installed by the PDF-XChange Viewer SDK for Clarion and then open the relevant Viewer example application as installed by the same SDK from the examples folder.

This modified class should allow the app to open and compile with the restricted call backs previously outlined - but remain stable.

We are investigating now - but ...

the issue with the Viewer ActiveX in C9 is we suspect to do with the "fine granularity" of the interrupts being generated by the Viewer for smooth scrolling events. It's overwhelming the Clarion event processing. The mouse scrolling is another issue having to do with the how the Clarion OLE container handles key and mouse events generated within the Clarion code, but are not passed through the container to the contents of the container.

For now we do not have a fix - but are working on and will come back as soon as we have more news.

Yes, the Viewer class files are in the clarion/libsrc folder because they depend on the Clarion SVCOM class files and must be "ABC-compliant" not just "ABC-compatible."

Thank you so much :D

The modified class appears to work - the program certainly doesn't crash at the same place, so I think i will try to move forward with the project.

I am impressed with your attention to this - Thank you again

Hi John,

Is that zip file mentioned before going to be of any use to me, when it comes to the scanning functions?

Thanks

Hi Tony,

Craig is a lot better and now he and Leo are working on the issue reported - will let them answer you as I am unable to give a meaningful answer without them - so rather than 'ping/pong' have asked Craig to reply - hopefully later today.

Thanks for your patience.

Hi Tony!

If by "scanning" you mean using the Viewer ActiveX scanning functions, then it might have some effect. If you mean PDF-Tools scanner templates, then nothing has changed.
