Using RasterXchange/PRinting within a Windows Service

Post by Randw » Thu Dec 04, 2008 8:23 pm

We've automated conversion of various formats, including MS Word, to TIff using TiffXChange, and looking to upgrade that to RasterXChange.

All of our other automation tasks run in a Windows Service context (on Windows Server 2003), and TiffXChange, using the printto verb will print Word docs from a service if a user is logged in and has a session open. However, if no user is logged into the machine, we get the following error, apparently at the PrintFile call for a Word DOC:

"The server process could not be started because the configured identity is incorrect. Check the username and password."
... even though the service running the automation is using the exact same user & password (else the service would not runat all).

Indications on the net is that Word expects a UI, and none is available to a service, unless a user is logged in.

So, can you run RasterXChange (or TIffXChange), calling the printto verb in a service context without an active user session?
