Default Reading Order

Hi,
We have noticed that, using the SDK to get the text with which we make the text-to-speech, the default reading order is not interpreted correctly.

In the attached file I used the specifications of the PDF format (from Adobe Indesign) to force the reading order in 1-2-3-4 and this is correctly interpreted by Acrobat Pro.

PDF-XChange Viewer SDK, on the other hand, reads 4-2-3-1. Is this something that can be changed in the SDK API, or is it a bug?

Thank you,
Gregory

Hi all!
This automatic order management feature has always been a "thumbs up" for us, when using the SDK.
I mean that even a badly arranged PDF reads in a document-like read order almost always. So the flow tends to go from top-left to right and down, as expected, with exceptions when the page structure is more complex, like in case of columns layout or floating elements.

We always assumed that the SDK does a black magic behind the curtains that overrides the order specified in the format, and that was good for almost every document.

Here the problem seems that this automatic reorder overrides the manually set items order, and that's bad because the documents used in this context are always well formatted and manually revisited.

For that, I don't think this is a bug, but surely there's a feature taking control.
Should it be possible to turn off the automatic reorder on load and let the document flow as manually declared? Is there a parameter or an API call that can do that?

Thanks in advance, greetings.

Hello Gregorio,

You have posted in our Viewer SDK forums. Can you please check and confirm if this is the correct place?
As the Viewer SDK has not been developed in quite a few years, and is unlikely to receive any updates related to changing functionality like the one this topic is dedicated to.
Can you please try it's successor - the PDF XChange Editor SDK:

And check if it handles your files better!
