PDF-Print with Raster is grey instead of Black

Post by Peter2 »

High - a new poster says "Hello"

I have problems with a PDF:

- made from AutoCAD with an integrated/embedded TIF
- printed with "all colors black"
- printed with PDFCreator, based on Ghostscript

Opening the PDF I see that there is a mixture of black vector and grey raster. I can display the raster in black if I disable the option Settings Ctrl-K - Display - Smooth Black/White Grafik (sorry - retranslated from german version ???).

But how can I reach a black printing? Print-preview and print-result are grey on the raster data ...
I played around with some color settings, but there was no result ..

In Adobe Reader both Preview and Print are really black ...

Thanks for help

HI Peter2,

can you post the file for us to examine? Be sure to zip it into an archive before posting though as the forum will strip attachments that are of type PDF.

Hello Paul

here is an example - text as vector and picture as TIF-raster.
It is stranger then yesterday - the picture is displayed black, but in print-preview and print-output it disappears. It can only be printed if "print as image" is enabled.

Regards

Peter

Hello Peter,

We have created a ticket for this, and are awaiting the results from the investigation the dev guys are undertaking.

In the mean time, I noticed that the image is rather strange actually - at very high zoom levels you can see that it consists of very thin lines.
Check the attached file.

Is the resolution with which you are printing from inside our Viewer and from Adobe the same? As this might make a difference with such an image.

Also try "Print as Image" inside our Viewer as this might provide a good output.

Best,
Stefan

Hello Stefan

a) "very thin lines"
Yes, I know them, but I thought this is normal ...
As said above it is made from AutoCAD with an integrated 400 dpi TIF, printed with current version of PDFCreator.

b) resolution:
Yes, the resolution has consequences for the display. But it does not solve the main problem - the grey print.

c) print as image:
Yes, this makes the picture black. But I do not like this option, because it nearly collapses the computer, takes long and uses much of CPU. And I have many, many files to print.

d) rotation:
Does the feature "rotate display +/- 90°! works?

Hi Peter2

the first three points will have to wait for the results of the investigation for me to comment on but the last part, View rotation should work fine. You should be aware that View rotation and page rotation are different functions, the former not changing the document itself - just the current view. The latter will actually rotate the pages in the file and this can be saved in the new orientation.

Hi Paul,
I checked the file provided by Peter2, and the screen rotation really does not work correctly in PDF XChange. If you will open this PDF file in XChange and then you will apply screen (view) rotation, then you can see that the picture (spring) disappears. The same happens also after page rotation. But the problem is with screen view - the screen view of the rotated picture is incorrect, althought the page view rotated the page correctly. The Adobe Acrobat displays the file always correctly (in any rotated position).

HI anovy,

indeed you are right. I also see the spring disappear. Thanks for pointing that out.
The issue is under investigation and we have a ticket for this : RT#462: PDF-Print with Raster is grey instead of Black. We'll post here when there is an update.

Hello Peter,

The solution appears to be only to "Print as Image", as this document contains a set of strokes (you can see it at 800% zoom).
Checked with Adobe, the display is the same.

Stefan

Hello Peter,

I have created a new ticket for this as it's a separate issue, and might be assigned to a different developer to investigate.
The new ticket is:
#657: Screen rotation not correct

We will keep you updated here in the topic with how the investigation goes.

Best,
Stefan

Hello All,

Can you please test with build 189 as it seems like this incorrect rotation behaviour has been corrected.

Best,
Stefan

Hello Peter,

You have not replied in a few days so I will just close the ticket and assume that everything is working with the latest build.
If it is not, you can always post here in the topic and we will resume the case.

Best,
Stefan

Strange - I thought I did ...
Yes, this rotation feature on this single drawing is working fine now. But I did not check other files and other features.

Hi Peter,

Thanks for the update :)
Glad to hear that it's working as it should now, and a fix is whenever possible a general one, and not for a specific file, so this should have effect on other similarly affected files as well.

Best,
Stefan
