Post by StrD »

Is it possible to turn off the prompt at first start of PDF-Viewer?

Kind regards

When the prompt comes up it should have a tick box, "do not ask me again". Make your selection and ensure that tick box is checked and it should not re-appear. If you want it to be your default viewer and it is not accepting it. you can go to Edit->Preferences->File Associations
and click the 'Make default PDF viewer' button. And it shoul not prompt you again as well.

Hope that helps,
Chris

My guess is that the wish is to turn it off on first use, as the original post says. Presumably installing the viewer on lots of PCs, and doesn't want the dialogue to come up at all.

Bhikkhu is right! I want to turn off the prompt before it appears the first time.

If you had use .exe installer you need to pass /PDFV parameter for installer to make the viewer default application for .pdf files during installation.

Thanks for your help, but the problem in our company is, that we don't want PDF-Viewer as the default application for PDF. We use the PRO version only for manipulating PDF files.

Hello David,

We have not yet finished work on the current build, so the installer is also not yet ready, but as promised by Ivan we will try to add such feature.

Stefan

Hello David,

The latest build was released two days ago. The feature you requested above has been added and I have sent you a PM with instructions.

Ten years later but, having moved from windows 7 to windows 10 (one can still do so for free) I am being asked repeatedly

"Make this application default PDF viewer?
□Do not prompt in future"

but even if I click the check box, I am prompted the next time I open a PDF, which does default to PDF-Xchange Viewer, which I am also using for free (though I did buy an Editor license for my uni pc once, I think, maybe). Thank you very much indeed.

Hi, timtak

The Viewer is now discontinued, but this option should be saved to the system registry upon application close. If the Viewer is closed improperly, such as by a crash, or being left open when shutting down, the change will not be stored and you will see the prompt again on your next launch (as the application still thinks this is the first launch). Alternatively, it is possible that a registry cleaner or your security software is preventing us from writing this value on a normal close. Please check to see that that is not the case.

You can find the Viewer Manual here, If you look to Page 17 you will see some of the installation switches available to the viewer MSI installers, including a "set as default" option. Using this option you can predefine during installation whether or not the application is set as default, and prevent this message from ever appearing.
