PDF XChange Viewer version:2.0 Build 41.3 Updated Problems?

Post by Seeker1 »

OS Vista Home Premium

When I updated this version to latest version I constantly get an error notification requesting that PDF XChange Viewer be made my default program for PDF files. When I allow this and request that is the case, it still does not set PDF XChange viewer as the default PDF program (no matter what I do)? I consistently get this error message every time I open the program. I have restored my system so that I have version 2.0 build 41.3 installed and do not encounter any problems with this version.

Can anyone be of assistance to resolve this conundrum?

Thanks!

For first, let me know the OS you are using.

Could you please elaborate on what you were able to ascertain regarding my concern/problem on update. Thanks!

P.S. If you turn off the User Account Control then you do not receive the error message/request to allow PDF XChange Viewer to become the default viewer every time you view a PDF document or open the program.

Hi there,

indeed changes had to be made to correct this. They will be available in the next build. We can notify you when that is done if you like. In the meanwhile you can employ this work around:

When asked to make PDF-XChange the default check the option "Don't ask" and click "No". If you then go on and set the file association for PDF to be PDF-XChange Viewer in Windows the setting will be retained.

In Windows Explorer (eg My Documents, Not IE!):

right click a pdf file -> Open With -> Choose Default Program -> [select] PDF-XChange Viewer -> [Check box] "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file".

hope this helps
Best regards
