Open PDF in Firefox

Post by Wamma »

Open PDFs in Firefox doesnt work - the PDF is always promptet to download or open.

The new release Version 2.035 has not solved the problem for me.

I tried to uninstall and reinstall the PDF-Xchange Viewer - and make the setting "Show in Browser"... but nothing helped.

I use Firefox 2.0.0.12 German.

I don't have version 2 of firefox I don't even have an Inglish version, but in Firefox 3 there's the strange thing that in Programs you'l have to tell Firefox to use adobe acrobat.
And yes then it uses pdf-xchange inside the browser.
Don't ask my why.
This could also be in firefox2

I struggled with this recently myself. Several years ago I had an issue with Adobe Acrobat and Firefox, where forcing Firefox to download PDF files and open them using Acrobat outside of Firefox was the workaround.

After trying numerous fixes (none of which worked), I found that the following got me what I wanted:
  • 1. Open Firefox
    2. In the Address Bar type in "about:config" and press enter
    3. In the "Filter" field type in "plugin"
    4. Look for a line that reads "plugin.disable_full_page_plugin_for_types"
    5. If this line exists, right-click on it and select "Reset", or just edit the value to remove "application/pdf", leaving the remaining stuff in place.
If that line doesn't exist, then obviously this fix won't help.
