How to sort then print duplex first page of multiple pdfs?

Post by mattad »

Some times I have the following problem:

I load multiple documents (~20 up to 30) pdf docs into XChange Viwer (or editor).
The pdf filenames are sortable e.g. of pattern

2018.03.24 logA.pdf
2018.04.12 logB.pdf
....
2018.07.04 logA.pdf
2018.07.30 logC.pdf

Now I wan to print only the first page of all these pdf docs with one single click (or two).
The print should use the duplex function of my printer hardware.

How can I achieve this?

Sorting them manually and separately in a first step would be acceptable.
How does this work?

Hello Mattad,

I am afraid that there is no function in the Editor to do this automatically, you would need to use the Insert pages function from the Organize tab, and create a new document containing all of the desired pages, then print that document in order to accomplish this.

Kind regards,

Is there a way to do this via PDF Tools instead?

Hello Timur,
excellent question!
If one were to create a custom tool that would open a large amount of documents, extract the first "X number" of pages, compile them together, and then print that, yes PDF-Tools could do this. However as I interpreted it, it seemed mattad needed a different amount of pages from each source document, so I did not think this would be a viable option.

If you are interested however, This KB details how to create your own custom tools.

Enjoy!
