Text Box and its contents

When i edit a .pdf by adding a text box to enter the chapter or to add the page number for some reason some of these new files created will show in other .pdf programs (such as Sumatra) as red text characters without the text box border and as regular/default font size while other files created will have the text box's border showing with the correct size fonts (default for page numbers and of about font size 48 for Chapter names).

What is going on and how can i change this behavior?

If I open the created files in PDF viewer everything shows as it should and printing using this software is favorable as well. I have had problems sending my .pdf files to people and whatever .pdf software they use it doesn't print the text boxes or whatever was in them.

Is there a way that I can resolve this issue? Not even the SumatraPDF that this program is affiliated with will read some of the files newly created. Weird how some files it will show as it should but others it doesn't.

1) Are you sure that you are using each time a "Text Box" comment, or do you sometimes use the "Typewriter" comment ?
It can also be that you are using a very old version of PDF-XChange Viewer.
The most recent version is 2.5.322.8 but its further development has been stopped years ago (keep reading).

2) With PDF-XChange Viewer, you can only add text in form of "Comments", also called "Annotations" or "Markup".
These items are NOT part of the base-content of the PDF.
So, when you print a PDF and you also want to print the "Comments", then, in the "Print" dialog box, below "Advanced Print Options" at "Print", you must make sure to select "Document and Markups" or even better "Whole Content".

NOTE: Like I said before, PDF-XChange Viewer has become obsolete, and has been replaced by PDF-XChange Editor ?
You can download this software, install and try it out for free. Only, when you are using some of its licensed features, you will get publicity stamps on the pages of your PDF.

Typewriter does not give a border, as well the color of the font from black to red would indicate that there is something amiss.

Please stick to the assumption that I am using a text box. I am not mixing any thing up. The only thing I change is the font size which does not explain why page numbers turn up red without their text box border.

So frustrating because I have had put up with this for years but now I am required to send my files by email to be printed.

Does #2 apply to adding a text box? It doesn't make transparent and I am not that proficient with the program to understand its other features.

Hello, I have edited the text in my first post in this topic.

Maybe you are prepared to do a test with the Editor ?

If you like, you can post an example PDF showing the problem you have ...

No idea what you are speaking of when you mention editing.

I think it's time to find another program for my needs.

Maybe I should be posting "How do I add a text box with borders that will show and print the way it was created"?

Hello Eishieow.
Sorry for the delay in response here, We've been busy in the office today.

As Willy was saying, the Viewer has been discontinued, however the latest version of it seems to work correctly for me, please download this version here to ensure you have the latest version of the Viewer.

If you would like to try the Editor, you can do so here as well. It is much more robust than the viewer was, It also still has support (as any new product should), so if an issue like this appears we will be working to fix it.

Thanks. I was using vers. 2.5.317.1 April 2016. Just switched from XP to 10 about a month ago so I haven't bothered to upgrade.

Hi again,
That sounds like a likely fix then, as the Final version of the viewer is 2.5.322.8
Let me know if it works!

I got the job done with the newer version of PDF viewer. Prior to installing I installed the Editor just to check it out but because i found the controls awkward I installed the viewer without installing the Editor by deleting the folder during installation.

Now that I am done I uninstalled everything and am testing the Editor just in case if I run into any other need and the Editor is capable.

I don't think Willy's comment is applicable to the use of Viewer because my needs were fulfilled using the latest release of Viewer with its default settings.

However, now that I have installed the Editor again to see if I can handle using it I wonder if I am going to have problems after reading Willy's comment. If I use the text box in the Comments tools/tab am I going to have problems with other people printing my documents. I won't be sending them directions that they have to do this or that to get it to print the way it was intended.

Is there a way to add a text box (with border) and enter text within without having to send instructions of how to print it using other software?

Hello eishieow,

Could you please prepare some sample files and send them to us?
With them, we'll run some tests to find the best solution to the problem, if there is one.

Regards.

Thank for giving us a hand in testing Jessica,
Having more points of reference always helps!
