Option of disabling/adjusting smoothing of pencil tool?
Dear Tracker team,
I love PDF-XChange Viewer and use it for annotating my PDFs with my ThinkPad Yoga 460 pen on Windows 10. Unfortunately, the intense smoothing of the pencil/handwriting tool makes my handwritten comments hardly legible at times. I saw that you have offered an option of disabling/adjusting smoothing in other versions of your software by now. But the latest threads on this for the PDF-XChange Viewer are from a few years ago, so I would like to raise this issue again: Would it be possible to offer the option to disable or adjust pencil smoothing in PDF-XChange Viewer as well, please?
Thank you and best wishes,
derforscher

Re: Option of disabling/adjusting smoothing of pencil tool?
Hello derforscher,
I believe the file discussed in this topic will help:
viewtopic.php?f=62&t=23584&p=91778&hili ... oth#p91801
However I believe it will only work for the Editor and not for the Viewer which is now a discontinued product for several year.
Regards,
Stefan

Dear Stefan,
Thanks for your prompt reply.
I've downloaded the PDF-XChange Editor and looked at the post you recommended, but there still does not seem to be a solution to the issue, right?
Thanks,
derforscher

Hello derforscher,
My Above link should have been specifically to a post my colleague Will made - and this link was in the post:
download/file.php?id=5656
To a special registry key that will assist you with adjusting the smoothing level.
However this might be a better post to link to:
viewtopic.php?f=62&t=27912&p=117672&hil ... ng#p113284
Regards,
Stefan

Re: Option of disabling/adjusting smoothing of pencil tool?
Hi Stefan,
Thanks for your reply and for clarifying that you were referring to the registry edit option.
I had downloaded and applied the 30 percent option before I even installed the PDF-XChange Editor. Is that a problem? Should I re-run it or how could I solve a potential issue there?
Plus, I would like to lower the smoothing level even further (e.g. from 30% to 0%), but I don't quite understand what your colleague is referring to when he recommends to open the registry file with Notepad. When I do so, I don't see any reference to 30%, so I don't know how to change to 0%.
Please advise.
Thanks again and best wishes,
derforscher

Re: Option of disabling/adjusting smoothing of pencil tool?
Hello derforscher,
The value in the 30% file is this one:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Tracker Software\PDFXEditor\3.0\Settings\Commenting]
"i.InkSmoothLevel"=dword:0000001e
The 1e is the haxadecimal equivalent of the decimal 30, so if you type e.g.
...dword:00000001
You will get the smoothing down to 1%
Regards,
Stefan

Re: Option of disabling/adjusting smoothing of pencil tool?
Thank you very much, Stefan! I think this solved the issue.
One final follow up, as I'm experiencing problems with full screen mode now. That is, when I turn on full screen mode, the pencil tool becomes deactivated. I have tried the solution recommended elsewhere on the forum to turn off "Presentation Mode" under Edit -> Preferences -> Full Screen, but to no avail... When I activate my pencil tool, scribble something, and then switch to full screen mode, the pencil tool is unfortunately not operating anymore, but instead I see the "hand" tool. Do you have any other suggestion how to resolve this issue?
Thank you,
derforscher

Re: Option of disabling/adjusting smoothing of pencil tool?
Hello derforscher,
May I recommend that we continue the separate discussion for the full screen in it's topic?
As this makes it easier if I need to link to a topic when it is dedicated to a single problem only!
Cheers,
Stefan
