Is there a way in version 1.020 to see the name of the file that is presently being worked on?

Yes, there is 
When you mouse over the document's tab, in the tooltip you will see the full path and name of the document
Or,
you can open the document properties window (Ctrl+D, or File -> Document Properties...) and on the "Description" page you will find some information about the document, including its location (please note that "Location" item is click-able using XP and later/higher OS)
