Problem with [SECURED] documents

Post by DocPit_45 »

I’ve been using PDF-XChange Viewer with Windows 10, mostly to look at camera manuals in .pdf form. Never had a problem until recently. Some documents that I have viewed many times before now appear with a [SECURED] label, which makes it impossible for me to copy text from the document into my notes. Other documents, no problem. There is no encryption enabled in my OS, and I have never done anything to “secure” any of these documents that I have worked with many times in the past. What I would like to know is: (1) How do I remove security from these documents? and (2) How do I prevent them from being “secured” in the future? Is there some security feature in PDF-XChange that I can turn off?

Hi DocPit_45,

Thanks for the post - the only way to remove the security would be under File --> Document Properties --> Security and set the security method to No Security, but you would need the password to do this.

We cannot advise on any methods to circumvent the security because we cannot verify that you are the author of the document(s) and have the rights to do.

Thanks,

I understand your point. What puzzles me is that I'm the only one who uses this computer, I'm the only one who looks at these documents, in the past, I have looked at these documents with no security problems, I have never set a PW or any other security measure, yet, if I understand you correctly, you are saying that somehow a PW was set on this document? Is that correct?

It's easy enough for me to just download another copy of the manual. I'm just totally perplexed as to how this occurred. Is there any way to disable security in the program so that this does not occur in the future?

Hi DocPit_45,

I can't really say that it is, for sure, without seeing a sample, but the "[SECURED]" label strongly suggests that is the case.

Security cannot be disabled because it should only be set when explicitly done so by the user. I'm not personally aware of any issues with current or previous versions of the Viewer having done this, but that's not to say that it's not possible.

I'd recommend that you update to the latest release of the Viewer (Version 2.5. Build 317.1):
https://www.pdf-xchange.com/PDFXVwer.zip

Or use the Viewer's replacement, which is the Editor:
https://www.pdf-xchange.com/PDFXVE6.zip

Cheers,
