Overlay a jpg (or gif, or something else)

Thu May 28, 2015 9:32 pm

I have a pdf that needs to be signed with a facsimile signature, and I have the signature as a jpg file, but could convert it to a different format. I would like to overlay the signature onto the pdf document. The signature jpg is black on white, and I would like the white background to be transparent so as to not obscure the original pdf. Can this be done (hints requested please)?

Hi vesper,

Thanks for the post - I'm afraid that we cannot do this, it would require a dedicated image editor, in order to have the white background be transparent and leave the actual signature untouched. I would recommend taking a look at this article here, for instructions creating a transparent signature stamp:
http://www.tracker-software.com/knowled ... ture-stamp

If you want to use this image as an actual digital signature, then you would need to create a new digital signature, then either clone + edit, or edit, one of the templates and choose the "Custom Icon" Option.

- To create a signature, go to Edit --> Preferences --> Signatures --> Creations and Appearance [More] --> Manage Digital Signature Appearances

HTH!

I used the Irfanview image tool to turn my jpg signature into a transparent something else (.gif or .png or ...) and all is great! I even turned the sig into blue (as in blue ink) to make it more resemble a blue pen signature. When you 'sign' a document with the resulting stamp, be sure to flatten comments so the signature image can't be lifted (easily) and used elsewhere...

The Editor has a feature "Signature and Initials" (Document -> Signatures and Initials). When an image is added as signature there, the background is automatically removed from the image. Also, the Editor shows a notification if there are unflattened signatures, and flattens them automatically on document save.

When attaching files to any message - please ensure they are archived and posted as a .ZIP, .RAR or .7z format - or they will not be posted - thanks.

I'm using a transparent png signature stamp on a document, but it refuses to flatten using flatten comments. Never had this problem before, until now (Editor Plus ver 6.0 build 317.0). Any ideas as to why I can still edit the content on a flattened pdf?

Sorry I duped this, I couldn't find a means to delete it, before starting a new thread.
