“Rectangular Link Tool” zero border after reload

Hi,

We can use “Rectangular Link Tool” to add link in documents, which may points to a page in the same document, other files, or net address. To make the link conspicuous I usually set the border width of the rectangle to be 1 and use dashed line border style.
However, each time after saving the document, close and reopen:
1. The link is still clickable.
2. The border would become invisible, i.e., have border width changed to zero.

No matter if I am opening the saved PDF in XChange-viewer or Adobe, the border are all invisible. This makes it extremely difficult to spot links on a page.

In XChange-viewer I do have a remedy for this:
(1) Turn on “Rectangular Link Tool” tool
(2) Select all “Rectangular Links” using CTRL+A
(3) Change border width to 1

However, (1) This doesn’t work for Adobe. (2) Wasting time for each document (3) Cannot use “Rectangular Link Tool” when I want to share file with other people.

Could anyone help with this?

Can you please send us a copy of a file that behaves this way so we may investigate the issue further. You can zip it up and send it to us at support@tracker-software, stating the forum post: 12164 in the email. As well let us know what version of the Viewer you are using Help->About PDF-XChange Viewer including build number and what version of windows you are using, 32 or 64 bit?

I created a link in page 1 pointing at page 2. This is still clickable after saving, but the border lost.

XChange viewer and OS version can be found on 1st page.

Hello Bob,

Did a quick test with your file - and the border was correctly changed - and is visible in both our Viewer and Adobe's reader.

Could you please try to do a full uninstall, restart and a fresh reinstall of all our products at your end - and advise if this will fix the issue for you?

I had a deadline to catch so only tried the reinstallation until just now. Sorry for my late reply.

The behavior that rectangular link width changes to zero after reloading the file persists. I have no idea whether whether it relates to my system.

This is, anyway, not a very big issue. I am anticipating the new version release.

Hello Bob,

Could it be that there is some script that runs on e.g. log-on and resets all Viewer settings to a predetermined default?
Maybe that's what's causing your link settings to reset?

I presume this is not related to system restore, but do you have any applications that could be monitoring the registry and preventing changes to it (other than Windows itself ) - e.g. a Firewall or an Antivirus application?

Hi Bob_sun,

The re-install would have left your settings intact. Let's try reverting your viewer settings to default and give it another go. Go to Edit->Reset all setting to default, then set everything up and try again. Let us know how it goes.

Hi,

I'm suffering from the effect, too.
My configuration: Vista SP2, all updates done. PXCV 2.5 Build 200, portable version with OCR.

I changed the setting so that the border of the linked area is shown with green dashes.
After reading this thread I deleted the settings.dat -file and restarted the viewer. Apparently the saved links do not contain the border-settings, at least the border is set to zero.

we will investigate this. We have raised a Support Request Ticket around this: RT#1405: “Rectangular Link Tool” zero border after reload

I cannot say at this point if this can be addressed in the next build or if it will be done for Version 3. We'll know more as we investigate and will update you here.

Hi, I'm experiencing this problem as well, with only one difference: the problem only arises when I change the link border style to underline and then save the file. This causes the border width to be set to zero upon reload. If I change the border style to anything else and save it, the border width is still correct upon reload.

I'm using PDF-XChange Viewer free, Version 2.5, Build 203.0. I'm attaching the PDF file I've used to reproduce this problem (though it occurs in any other files I try as well). I've been editing the link around the numeral 2.

I managed to reproduce your problem both with your sample, and with a fresh file I created myself - so I've also made a ticket in our internal system:
#1559: Viewer 2.5.203: Issue with links with underline border style
Which will allow us to correctly track and resolve this issue.
