XMP Support

Post by neilpitman » Thu Mar 01, 2007 5:25 pm

Is there any explicit support for XMP in PDF-Tools or is it just up to us to use the low-level API (probably in conjunction with Adobe's XMP Toolkit) to manipulate XMP metadata?

Thanks

Neil Pitman

Hi Neil,

At this time we offer no specific support for XMP and to be honest in the past when we have discussed internally we have failed to understand the significance or importance of supporting directly.

If you have a moment - would appreciate your input as to how you would benefit from using/incorporating - if there is some extensive benefit - we would look at adding in support in a future release.

thanks

The two main areas where XMP is important for PDF :

(a) It is a requirement for PDF/A (see section 6.7 of ISO 19005) at both creation and modifiction time - eg updating xmpMM:History.

(b) To provide additional indexing information that can be used when searching - eg after importing into Microsoft Sharepoint.

Thanks Neil,

Appreciate the input - yes, we knew about requirement for PDF/A. but it is one thing to write it, and quite another thing - to modify.

Our Developent director does not believe it would be prudent to duplicate Adobe's XMP API - will have to think on this matter.
