Filling in a W9

Post by BoxSoft » Sun Nov 25, 2012 2:12 am

I need to fill in the data fields on this W9 PDF: http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/fw9.pdf. It appears to have entry fields, so I'm hoping to use the PDF-Tools SDK to load the PDF, fill in those fields, and print it, all without intervention from the user. Currently I need to do only one at a time, but in the future I may need to batch this or similar forms. Is there an example that shows how this is done?

I've seen the 1099 example mentioned in the docs, but the example APP name doesn't match the files that were installed. Is there an updated reference of the example names?

Also, the 1099 example apparently uses the overlay feature. I would prefer to do it by automatically filling in the fields and printing it, as it saves me the trouble of tweaking the positions of printed data, and if the form ever changes I've got to do it all over again.

Hi Mike!

PDF-Tools itself does not support filling of forms, although you can make them using the Forms class. When PDF-Tools 5 uis released (but I have no ETA on that) it should support this.

The current PDF-Viewer ActiveX 2.x DOES permit filling and downloading form fields, but can be expensive if purchased stand-alone.

We have a PDF-XChange PRO SDK bundle that includes PDF-Tools, PDF-Viewer ActiveX and simple DLL versions, PDF-XChange Printer Driver (for generating PDF files under program control when printing things like Word docs, Excel spreadsheets, and other programs that permit printing but not using PDF-Tools), and our new OCR engine.

Please see http://www.tracker-software.com/product ... ge-pro-sdk for more details and pricing.

Ok, so what's the name of the example that shows how to do overlays? I tried setting one up, but obviously did something wrong, as nothing appeared.
