SMTP Message-Id Header

We have a customer using our solution based on your software that is having trouble getting email to a particular recipient. Upon further examination, the recipient concluded that the Message-Id header in the SMTP message was not RFC-compliant (see below). In addition, the recipient stated that they have their mail server to be as strict as possible with SMTP RFC guidelines.

Sep 24 10:49:50 fw2 sendmail(1)[1118]: l8OEno0T001118: ruleset=LocalCheckMessageId, arg1=<17583eb0-dcee-4b5e-9763-60260e895d6b>, relay=mail.somecompany.com [XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX], reject=553 5.0.0 Message-Id header line format error

According to the IETF RFCs for SMTP, format of the msg ID (also called ENVID) should be like: 123-456-7890@ourclient.com. The ID itself can be any length but it should be followed by an "@" symbol plus some domain name. Messages sent from Outlook through the same mail server do contain the correct msg ID format (i.e., username@ourclient.com).

Is this something that needs to be fixed insode PDF-XChange?

Hi,

If you are using the Simple MAPI option via Outlook - then the process is passed and controlled to Outlook and we have no way to ensure MessageID's are passed - Outlook appears not to support this.

So I am afraid there is nothing we can do to resolve this :(

The trouble is fixed into the build 0123 which will be available to download in hours.

Hi,

Build 3.50124 is now available - and the link you have will indeed download the latest Vesrion 3 Client distribution file (whatever version that may be ), however if you also use the PDF-XChange PRO or PDF-Tools library SDK's - you should also download and install either of those for your development use - here :

And the SMTP header issue was fixed in build 3.60124 - not build ...23 as stated by my colleague.
