Merging several documents into 1 PDF

What is the best approach (inVB6 with PDF-Xchange 3) to take several files (eg a Word (.DOC), an Excel (.XLS) and an image (.TIF)) and output them all to a single Acrobat (.PDF) file.
Should I use the SDK or API ?
Should I convert each file to PDF first and then merge them ?

You would be best placed to use a combination of the 2.
for the Office formats - you must user the driver API, as you have to open the file using the MS Office app in your code, print and then close - we do provide a simple example of doing this for VB in the evaluation SDK.
For Image files - you are best placed to use the Library Dll's.
If you choose the same file name you have the option to Overwrite if the file exists, insert to a specific page or append to the end of the file.
Again there is an image2pdf VB demo app provided.
