URLs not converting into PDF

Post by renuraja » Tue Aug 01, 2006 7:15 pm

Hi, We are having an issue converting Word documents into PDF using the SDK that we are losing the links. If we are to use the toolbar on top of Word and convert it to PDF manually, the link is there.

This is our environment:
1. using Microsoft Word 2003
2. using Adobe Acrobat Reader 7.0
3. using PDF-XChange 3 Pro
4. using Microsoft Visual Basic 6.0 Enterprise Edition SP5
5. development environment is on Windows XP Profession Edition SP2

The attachment contains the EXE file that comes with the SDK, a sample Microsoft Word document, PDF file converted manually from toolbar, and PDF file converted automatically from the EXE file.
Attachments
VBExCOM.zip
Example that I have attached is the EXE file that comes with the SDK.

Hi,

Yes you are correct and this is intentional.

The Office Addin we inlcude with the End user release that supports embedded URL's functions directly from the Toolbar icons in MS Office - but is not available for Developer or Third party use and is not licensed for such use - you may not distribute or use as part of the developer SDK - even if the user has an end user license (other than from the Office Toolbar in keeping with their end user license) and you as a developer have an SDK license - it is not an SDK component.

Hope that helps.
If posting files to this forum - you must archive the files to a ZIP, RAR or 7z file or they will not be uploaded - thank you.

Hi,

What options do we have to have the URL embedded into the PDF files and how can we get that done? That is a requirement from our business community.

Thank you.

Hi,

We provide no options within the SDK as this is not possible directly via the driver - from a technical perspective - it cannot be achieved, Windows offers no direct way for a 'Printer' device to receive any such information.

As you will see - we have not directly done this through the driver ourselves with the Office Addin - but via our ActiveX we supply end users that passes the URL via a separate process once the file has been written - this would be the only way to achive the desired result.

However - as it took us over a year to perfect the Office Addin with a developer working on almost 100% of the time - you will appreciate it represents a considerable investment in time and effort and trawling through the MS Office related sites to get working - the Microsoft doc's are not entirely accurate or reliable on this matter.

Do we have any update on this? easyPDF from BCL Technologies is able to provide this functionality... even though they might be using some other way, but it is happening.

Appreciate a response.

Hi,

We provide it too in our End user Addin - but it is not possible directly from the driver - any print driver as previosuly stated.

So from a our MS Office Toolbar Addin we circumvent this and add in via a different method.

But our end user products are NOT royalty free and we naturally do not give them freely with the SDK - they are added value items and took many 100's of man hours to create and require ongoing tweaking and maintenance.

Naturally there is nothing stopping you creating your own as we have done and I assume easyPDF offer in their end user product which you may be able to gain access to - but I supect this is not Royalty free either.

Of course if you wish to additionally license our end user products - we have many developers who provide functionality they require in their applications using our SDK and then resell our end user products as well to their clients - we offer generous discounts and would be pleased to discuss terms.

Please email sales@tracker-software.com shoudl you require further info.
