Printing windows metafile to PDF using PDF-XChange v3 driver

Post by ThomasGibson » Tue Sep 28, 2010 10:04 pm

We've have a user that tried to print a report created in our application to PDF file using PDF-XChange. The report contained a windows metafile which did not print to PDF properly. The metafile contained a floorplan with a square filled with cross-hatching. When printed to PDF the square was solid black. Do you know what could cause this? And how it can be prevented?

Thank You,

Sketch.zip
This is a zip file containing three files, Sketch.wmf, Sketch.bmp, and SketchProb.pdf. Sketch.wmf is a metafile containing a simple floor plan. The floor plan consists of a square filled with cross-hatching. Sketch.bmp shows how the square appears in our application (Appraise-It). SketchProb.pdf is a PDF created using PDF-XChange. Instead of being filled with cross-hatching, the square is filled with solid black.

Hi Thomas,

thanks for contacting us with this. I have created a support Request Ticket to track this as we investigate. RT#500: Printing windows metafile to PDF using PDF-XChange v3 driver

One thing to note is that your V.3 driver is very old and you should probably consider upgrading to V.4 as you still qualify for an upgrade discount which will no longer be offered once v.5 is released very soon. An upgrade now would be prudent as it will include a free upgrade to V.5 so you wold effectively be getting 2 major upgrades for the price of one and this opportunity is limited to this period before the v.5 release.

Regardless - we will take a look at your file and let you know what we find.

HI ThomasGibson,

the team have informed me that they will be able to fix this in v.5 of the drivers. It will be ready later this month.

Hi Thomas,

my development team have corrected this and we are wondering if you can confirm that it is working for you at your end in the current build.

Sincerely
