Tiff looks to light while viewing

Post by jstreece » Fri Aug 10, 2007 8:21 pm

We have 10 licenses of Tiff XChange. We are creating Tiff files from AutoCAD 2004. The tiff files are around 500 k each we are using 30 x 42 paper size, 300 dpi. The files plot to a full size plotter and look great.
Our problem is when you open them in any electronic viewing program (we use ACDsee 6.0) the tiff appears to be faded or washed out. As you zoom in the image gets darker and darker. We are printing using 300 dpi, 1 bit color depth, and ccitt mode 4.
Is there a way to make this image better looking?

I have attached a sample of one of our drawings.

Thank you,

Hi Jim,

The "problem" is caused by the content of the TIFF:

The greater the degree of high contrast elements per square unit, the more visual degradation of the image will occur after zooming out.

Imagine you are zooming out of an image say 2x2m pixels high/wide (black and white pixels in a staggered order) to 1x1.

The result will be a single pixel of average gray color - the image will look faded out - hence why when you zoom in the image improves in density - I am afraid it is unavoidable.

If posting files to this forum - you must archive the files to a ZIP, RAR or 7z file or they will not be uploaded - thank you.
