Missing lines in hard copy (paper) of TIFF file

Post by jstreece » Mon Apr 24, 2006 6:05 pm

We are using TIFF XChange to create TIFF files from AutoCAD 2004.
I have attached a TIFF file that looks great in the electronic version. When we print this TIFF file however it begins to loose lines. I have attached screenshots of the TIFF XChange settings we are using.

The file is a 34" x 44" AutoCAD drawing printed to TIFF at 1:1. So the resulting TIFF file should be 34" X 44". When plotted full size to paper all the lines appear as normal. When plotted any size smaller (sent to 17" x 22" paper fit to paper) then lines begin to disappear. Any paper size other than 34" x 44" makes lines disappear.

We have printed from 2 different TIFF viewing softwares , ACDsee and Adobe Acrobat. And 4 different printers OCE TDS 600, OCE TDS 800, HP 1055C and HP 5000N laser printer. The results are the same.

The only pice of the puzzle that does not change is the original TIFF file.
Are we doing something wrong?

Thank you,

Thanks Jim,

will advise as soon as I have some feedback from the TIFF-XChange project manager - its Easter at our DEV office in Ukraine - so I am afraid it will be tomorrow - thanks for your patience.
If posting files to this forum - you must archive the files to a ZIP, RAR or 7z file or they will not be uploaded - thank you.

Any news?

Any news on this issue? We contacted OCE hardware reps and they are telling us that this is something to do with the TIFF file itself and not the printer.

Thanks,

Hi Jim,

we looked into and printed this locally and cannot reproduce the issue - the only compromise made here is that we obviously dont have a full size plotter to output.

Have you tried different print options for your printers/plotters and/or alternate viewing/printing software.

Specifically try to set a 'scaling mode' option and also try 'bicubic' or at least 'bilinear' value.

If a viewer can display a TIFF file normally then it is definitely possible to print it as well because the viewing and printing are both types of rasterization.

If not so then there is most likely a bug in the print output software.

Is there anyway you can provide us with a reasonable quality scanned copy of what you see after printing ?

thanks
