Re: Why does XChange Editor update reset the default PDF program?

Good to know, thanks. However, I seem to recall from back then that even with the choice it was ignored. I'll check next time.

Re: Why does XChange Editor update reset the default PDF program?

I have lots of programs, many of the same type, and it is rare that one resets the default on its own. Most will ask or have an "advanced" option during the install that lets the user choose.

Re: Why does XChange Editor update reset the default PDF program?

Future? Here we are nearly two years later and XChange Editor still resets itself as the default program after every update.

Re: extra editor entries

I'm not aware of any partial installs, but things do happen. I'm going to assume that my deleting the two registry entries, which indicated the version numbers, sufficiently (or completely) solved the problem, such as it was. Thanks,

Re: extra editor entries

The older entries are not showing in CP > Programs & Features. Removing the older entries showing in Revo Pro, for example, removes elements that are common to Viewer and Editor, hence rendering both inoperable. Short of completely uninstalling all Tracker products, I’m looking for what might ma...

extra editor entries

On my Win 7 laptop, along with Viewer I have Editor 7.0.327.1 installed. PatchMyPC, however, also shows a couple of earlier versions there, as if the latest version didn't clear out something from the earlier ones. See the attached screenshot. Where should I look for the residue of the previous inst...

Re: Why do Editor updates override PDF default setting - still?

Glad you're going to take a look at it. There are two parts to this: 1) changing the user's default during updates of Editor without asking; and 2) changing the user's default to Editor from another program, in this case one of yours, without asking. I have a lot of programs on my computer and am no...

Re: Why do Editor updates override PDF default setting - still?

Thanks David for the documentation. IMO, overriding defaults and audio/video that play automatically are very bad form.

Re: Why do Editor updates override PDF default setting - still?

Paul - I think you're missing our responses, or at least mine. I've seen a lot of things in my many years, but that custom box or anything from Tracker with the word "custom" in it is not one of them.

Re: Why do Editor updates override PDF default setting - still?

With custom, I don't get that window from within X-Change Viewer. Follow up: Apparently, updating Editor from within Viewer didn't get all the way there. So I just used Tracker to update and in the process it changed the Windows PDF file association to Editor, just like it's always been doing for so...

Re: Why do Editor updates override PDF default setting - still?

Dave - Thanks for noticing and posting. Are you saying that today you downloaded the zip file from the Tracker site? Seeing your post, I checked for updates within X-Change Viewer, found the Editor one and downloaded/installed it. However, this time it left the Viewer default alone. So perhaps in th...

Re: Why do Editor updates override PDF default setting - still?

My last post gave the current build I have, which would have applied to what happened last week or two - 322.7 (v 2.5). It says August, which seems farther back than I recall for Viewer, but my memory isn't what it used to be. For the builds prior to that, I'd say check your list back about twelve m...

Re: Why do Editor updates override PDF default setting - still?

As indicated in my OP, I installed Editor because occasionally it is of use. In that context, it's only sensible to keep it up to date. You've asked which build of Viewer. The last I have is 322.7 (August), but there's been more than that, as I see a Viewer and Editor updates periodically. I wrote y...

Re: Why do Editor updates override PDF default setting - still?

First of all, the Editor override of your own X-Change Viewer as the Windows default setting has occurred numerous times, in fact every time for at least most of a year. X-Change Viewer is my default in Windows file associations and the system is Win 10 Pro 1607 x64. Since I work with Viewer 99% of ...

Why do Editor updates override PDF default setting - still?

Several months ago, I alerted Tracker support to the fact that Editor updates were overriding the user's default pdf default setting in Windows (10). They still haven't gotten through their heads how obnoxiously rude and contrary to internet norms this behavior is. For me, I still prefer X-Change Vi...

Re: PDF icon desktop color - why I'm staying with XChange Vi

My test agrees with the last post. My request is still that the Editor icon be changed for a better fit with desktop pdf's or, probably better, that more icon color choices be provided, with something like Viewer's included. Thanks,

I'm missing something here. Changing Editor's icon to Viewer's is easy, thanks. I'm just not seeing how to get that to change the existing pdf icons on my desktop though.

Re: PDF icon desktop color - why I'm staying with XChange Vi

See the screenshot. Three choices, two red and the other nothing special. Changing to the yellow-gold one had no effect on the pdf icons on my desktop after closing Properties.

PDF icon desktop color - why I'm staying with XChange Viewer

Found out a few weeks ago that XChange Viewer is no longer being updated. While I prefer its simplicity over Editor, I can live with the latter except for one thing: the color of the pdf desktop icons it creates. On my Win 10 desktop, Viewer's powder blue with a bit of white melds into the backgroun...

Re: Editing font size/style

Thanks. Being able to edit the features of multiple objects and comments at once always struck me as a no-brainer, so I figured the reason it's not there had to do with something about the programming of PDFs, or at least those we pick up after the creation stage from others.

Re: Editing font size/style

Every app has its own terminology. My typical use of the Typewriter function with a PDF is to fill out a form, e.g., name, address, etc. Are those considered "comments?" Thanks,

Re: Editing font size/style

Yes it does. Instead of going one by one, is there a way to modify the type size/style for all the user's objects/entries (e.g., via Typewriter)? I tried holding the Control and Shift keys, but neither did it.

Ok, one has to double click inside the existing text. Wish I could modify that and get that toolbar view up front on a single click.

Editing font size/style

I'm lost on this one. How does one change the font size (or style) of already typed text (typewriter)? The font part of the toolbar disappears when I click in entered text. A search in Help comes up blank. Thanks, - XP/SP3, free version Btw, I tried changing the default font size while in a document...
